Solution: Hollowcore chosen for foundation of senior living community expansion.
Eagle Crest North Specifies Hollowcore for Senior Living Community Expansion
Eagle Crest North is a senior living community in Onalaska, Wisconsin, that is designed to promote a socially active lifestyle. In 2025, the community broke ground on a five-story expansion that will add 87 one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as a virtual sports lounge, game room, woodworking shop, botanical garden, and other amenities.
Project leaders specified hollowcore plank, precast beams and columns, and solid slabs to build the structural foundation of the 161,764-square-foot building. The new building includes underground heated parking for residents.
The project design is based on the concept of a town center for residents, who include independent seniors as well as memory care and assisted living patients.
Hollowcore is well-suited to multifamily projects because of its ability to accelerate construction timelines and maximize usable space. County Prestress & Precast's Hollowcore is manufactured to specification during production and arrives on the job site ready to be installed. Production of the hollowcore can happen while sitework is being completed, which can shave weeks off of the construction schedule.
The inherent strength of prestressed concrete gives hollowcore the ability to support wider spans with fewer columns. Structural foundations constructed with hollowcore are often used for underground garages. With fewer columns to work around, designers can fit more parking spaces. The acoustical dampening properties of concrete help to insulate the residential floors above the garage from vehicle noises.
Project Highlights:
County Prestress & Precast produced and delivered 22,600 SF of hollowcore plank and solid slabs, 680 LF of precast beams, and 250 LF of 16-inch precast columns for this project, working closely with the erector and the contractor to complete the building’s structural foundation on schedule.
