Precast Stair Shaft FAQs
What are precast stair shafts?
A precast concrete shaft is an efficient way to add a stairwell shaft to mid-rise structures. These prefabricated shafts are manufactured off-site and then transported to the project site for installation. Once in place, you can add precast concrete stairs or other means of passage between floors. Precast stair shafts are weather-resistant and fire-resistant, and they require minimal maintenance.
What kind of buildings are compatible with precast concrete stair shafts?
Precast concrete shafts are designed to accelerate the construction process for mid-rise wood framed, steel stud framed, and modular buildings. Precast shafts are an ideal solution for hotels, office buildings, military barracks, student housing, assisted and independent living facilities, apartment complexes, and multifamily construction.
How long does it take to erect a single precast shaft?
Our experienced team delivers and assembles the shafts with a telescoping boom manlift, eliminating the need for scaffolding. Stair shafts up to five stories tall can be erected in one day.
Can precast shafts be erected in winter conditions?
Precast stair shafts can be erected in many wintry conditions in the same amount of time as summer conditions.
Do precast shafts require temporary bracing?
No temporary bracing is required because the precast elements are monolithic boxes which can withstand construction wind loads due to the inherent weight and strength of the concrete mix and the permanent connections between each segment of the shaft.
