Solution: Project leaders specified prestressed planks, beams, and columns to resolve design challenges and changes.
Precast Concrete Chosen for Design Ease and Durability
Big River Senior Housing is a 42-unit senior living multifamily building situated along the Minnesota River. The location features easy access to the Big Rivers Regional Trail and overlooks the meeting of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, offering a picturesque view. Big River Senior Housing offers quiet living while still within a short drive from the bustling cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
When re-zoning issues surfaced during the production process, changes to the building design were necessary after beams were poured. County Prestress & Precast’s design team worked with project leaders to devise a solution that resulted in no recasting of any beams.
Hollowcore’s ability to tolerate heavy loads and its resistance to fire, rot, and pests make it an ideal choice when selecting construction materials. Prestressed concrete offers unmatched durability and inherent strength over its extended service life.
Project Highlights:
County Prestress & Precast supplied 808 ln. ft. of precast beams, 240 ln. ft. of columns, and 11,461 sq. ft. of hollowcore for the construction of this project. Precast and prestressed concrete offers an effective and long-lasting solution for multifamily housing construction.
