Solution: ArchCast Precast Bridge Systems prove an ideal solution for MoDOT bridge update
County Prestress & Precast’s Bridge Systems Accelerate Replacement of Aging Infrastructure
The state of Missouri has over 10,000 bridges—the sixth-highest number of bridges in the nation. For several years, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has been initiating infrastructure projects across the state to repair and replace aging bridges that are in poor condition, weight-restricted, or outdated.
As part of MoDOT’s infrastructure improvement plan, they replaced the 40-year-old Cave Springs bridge over Interstate 70. A wider bridge and a new overpass were installed to accommodate a single-point urban interchange and streamline traffic. A ten-foot-wide multi-use pedestrian connection was also constructed using County Prestress and Precast’s ArchCast Precast Bridge Systems.
Prefabricated components play an essential role in accelerated bridge construction. Bridge systems like ArchCast Precast Bridge systems are manufactured in a climate-controlled facility and then delivered to the construction site ready to install. Production can take place while the site is being prepared, eliminating construction delays due to on-site forming, rebar tying, and concrete curing.
Project Highlights:
This project features 54-foot precast concrete arches. These bridge systems are ideal for infrastructure updates because of their prolonged life expectancy, which can reach and exceed 100 years.
