Faster Installation

Precast wall panels are produced to the exact specifications of each project, including wall height, width, thickness, and placement of openings. At County Prestress & Precast, we produce insulated wall panels up to 15 feet wide and as tall as 55 feet.

Off-site production means precast panels can be produced in parallel with site prep and foundation work. Once delivered to the site, they are ready for immediate installation, with no need to make modifications to integrate with other building components. How Precast Compares to Other Concrete Wall Systems

Concrete is a versatile building material that can be manufactured off-site or on-site, with each construction method offering different advantages that can help teams overcome project-specific challenges.

Precast panels are often manufactured in climate-controlled facilities, and they are quality-tested before shipment. Once delivered, precast wall panels are installed using cranes. Erection of precast panels typically can be done faster and with less labor than other concrete wall systems. Precast walls offer greater flexibility in terms of panel design and surface treatments. Additionally, precast wall panels can be manufactured as insulated wall panels offering an insulated thermal barrier between the inside and outside of the wall elements, which can boost the thermal performance of a building and lead to lower operating costs.

Tilt-Up Construction

Tilt-up walls are cast on the ground horizontally on the jobsite and lifted into place after curing. This construction method eliminates transportation costs and provides design flexibility, but it requires multiple days for form setup and curing and is highly susceptible to weather delays. Insulation can be added to tilt-up panels, but it adds time and complexity to the curing process, which can lead to further construction delays. It also requires finished foundation work and a  large staging area before wall construction can begin. Overall, tilt-up panels require significant on-site production time and complexity which significantly increases the duration of field operations.

Cast-In-Place Concrete

With cast-in-place construction, wall elements are poured into formwork at their final location. Like tilt-up construction, site-cast concrete requires multiple days or weeks for form setup and curing. Weather disruptions and extended site disturbance can increase project duration and complexity.

Precast wall panels can be manufactured with a layer of insulation encased in two layers, or wythes, of high-strength concrete. Insulated wall panels offer all the benefits of other precast concrete walls along with enhanced thermal efficiency. In large-scale climate-controlled facilities, insulated wall panels can lead to reduced energy consumption.

Mechanical Integration
Openings for windows, pedestrian doors, dock doors, trailer restraints, and mechanical penetrations can be cast directly into the panels during production. This improves alignment with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and reduces on-site modifications.
