Illinois’ Mile-Long Bridge, Chicago, IL, is undergoing significant reconstruction. County Prestress & Precast continues to manufacture and deliver a variety of massive prestressed bridge girders for the project scheduled to open in 2023.
National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) interviewed Janesville Plant Operations Manager Gary Courneya to learn more about County Prestress & Precast's role in the project. Courneya spoke about the state’s choice of prestressed concrete and said, “A concrete bridge beam not only requires less maintenance but is also a bit more user-friendly from a lead-time and cost perspective.” He continued to explain how this is a milestone project for County Prestress & Precast. The company manufactured the heaviest bridge beams in the Midwest with some weighing an astounding 245,000 pounds.
