County Prestress & Precast Sponsors PCI Engineering Student Contest

Jul 6, 2023

Each year, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) holds an Engineering Student Design Competition, commonly referred to as the Big Beam Competition. Teams of students from engineering schools across the nation have the opportunity to design and test a prestressed concrete beam to verify the accuracy of their calculations. Winning teams are determined based on how close their calculations match the test results and are presented with an award at the PCI Convention.

This year, PCI of Illinois and Wisconsin connected a team of four engineering students from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) with County Prestress & Precast to produce a beam for the competition. County Prestress & Precast manufactured the beam according to the students’ design calculations and shipped it to UIC for laboratory testing.

County Prestress & Precast is proud to partner with these students and to support the Big Beam Competition. The program is an excellent opportunity for students to apply their education in a practical way. County Prestress & Precast values Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and invests in students who will play a vital role in building communities and shaping the future.

Our team of hardworking people are advancing their careers within our dynamic company and building stronger communities.
